Reasons to Upgrade to Windows 10

Reasons to Upgrade to Windows 10

Starting January 14, 2020 Windows 7 will no longer be supported by Microsoft. This means no more technical support, software or security updates for the operating system.   Windows 7 is being phased out we don’t want your business to be left in the dust. What does this mean for your business? What happens if you don’t upgrade? Is upgrading your whole network necessary?  iPoint can help you answer all these questions, contact us.

Security–  Microsoft has a life cycle for all of their products and when a product reaches the end of its life, major security concerns start to make way. All of the work that has been put into securing your business could go away simply because your operating system is no longer supported. The advice directly from Microsoft is “…your PC will become more vulnerable to security risks. Windows will operate, but you will stop receiving security and feature updates.” Microsoft will not be responsible for security breaches after January 14th leaving you and your company at risk. As a company you are also risking receiving a fine for not being GDPR compliant, when you use a out of date operating system you are not protecting personal data.

Software- Hackers and software developers know about the ending of Windows 7 as well. Hackers know the vulnerabilities they find after January 14, will be never closed and cyber criminals are waiting hastily for that day to arrive.   Software developers only write their programs to work on the latest operating system. If you don’t upgrade you will notice that any software you download will run poorly or wont work at all.

What Should You Do?- Don’t Wait!  It is estimated that one third of all Windows PC’s are still running Windows 7.   You should upgrade to Windows 10 as soon as you can. If you wait, when you need to upgrade your hardware and equipment you will find your self waiting in line. As January 2020 comes closer IT support will be become more and more limited. Some IT companies already anticipate projects started in the 2nd quarter of 2019 wont be finished before Microsoft’s deadline. Another factor to remember before upgrading is planning to have the correct hardware to run the new operating system. If any of this worries you, you should consider upgrading the computers on your network to Windows 10.

iPoint can help you upgrade your network to Windows 10 and provide consistent security against hackers and malware. iPoint can also provide your business with security assessments and ongoing security monitoring. Our network technicians will help create a tailored plan for long term security and updates for your network, so your never left unsupported and vulnerable again.

You’re Losing 95% of Web Traffic: Here’s Why

You’ve updated your website with an incredible WordPress theme, written killer copy to highlight your brand’s story, and spent hours curating original content—all with the help of a professional web designer.

There’s only one problem: you’re not getting any traffic. No one is visiting your website, there are very few clicks on your services, and you’re not seeing the ROI you hoped for when you signed up for web hosting services.

Wondering why?

Only 5% of web users check the second page of results when searching for a product or service. If you don’t have first-page rankings, your website is invisible to 95% of potential customers. Even worse, the first search result earns 33% of all views: if you’re not in the top three search results, you’re losing 60% of web traffic. This means less visits to your site and less profit for your company.

So how can your site—whether representing major brand or a small business—gain first-page rankings?

Search engine optimization.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process of connecting clients’ search terms with your website. When people type these keywords and phrases into major search engines like Google or Bing, your business’ website shows up at the top of search results.

SEO is affordable, effective, and vital in an increasingly competitive and web-driven marketplace. If you’re not maximizing your online presence, potential clients will find your competitors as your website disappears into millions of search results.

Security hacks becoming a common problem in today’s world

Here we are in the year 2015, a time where new technology is being developed everyday. A time where everyone from your grandma to your 4 year old brother is using a technological device. A time where data collection, storage, and protection is becoming a major problem for many businesses as we grow into the information age. It seems that we can’t go a full year without hearing about the latest data breach that occurred. Take Sony Pictures Entertainment for example. They are one of the largest corporations to be hacked to date. They lost thousands of personal emails, pictures, copies of unreleased films (the now released movie The Interview).

Another example would be the United States Office of Personnel Management. Yes, that is correct, a U.S. Government branch was also hacked. This goes to show that there are many companies and beyond who are not properly securing their data as they should. Some companies could go months without knowing that they are hacked similar to how the Personnel Management office did. That is why we suggest using a network monitoring system that will notify you if there is any suspicious activity happening within your network.

iPoint offers the i-Network Monitor system that proactively monitors your system so your business can avoid the risk of expensive repairs and downtime. The following are covered:

Networks – A network is the backbone of your business- it handles all communications from workstations and desktops, servers, printers, and internet/email traffic. By eliminating inefficiencies more quickly, iPoint can spot problems early, show where upgrades may be neeeded, and deliver better overall performance for your network.

Servers – As the most vital part of your business, your network server should be monitored to watch for key issues that can cause the most critical disasters.  iPoint will notify you and fix them fast-before it costs you downtime and loss of business.

Workstations – Workstation monitoring checks for serious issues, antivirus health and updates. It runs on any Windows PC or laptop and is crucial for keeping your workstations clean and safe.
