WordPress has completed the development of its most recent update to 5.9 and we will soon be updating all WordPress sites to this new version.

What does this mean for you?

We expect that those who’s websites have been built after 2018 will not be impacted, however, some may experience minor changes. Those with outdated websites may be at a larger risk of impact, as older sites are less likely to be compatible with changes in technology.

Fear not, iPoint will be monitoring your site as the update is gradually rolled out, and we will be making the necessary corrections and updates as they occur. Of course, if you happen to notice any errors that we miss, please feel free to send us an email, and we will get to it as soon as we can

We anticipate that our Continuous Care Plan should cover the cost to make these changes, if they should be needed. Those who are not on a monthly maintenance plan will be billed directly for updates at our usual development rate of $75.00/hour.

Please note that this will be the standard practice of corrections and updates to your website going forward.

This means, when we notice issues with your website due to updates either in the WordPress Core, Plugins, or Themes, we will fix those issues and you will be billed for the time spent fixing.  To avoid extraneous development charges, please consider our Continuous Care Plan.

We will be adding Privacy Policy and Cookie Notices to all iPoint Technologies websites

What does this mean for you?

You may notice a slight change to your website: upon initial visits, you will see a small banner which will notify the user that this website uses cookies and tracks browsing data. This pop-up will allow users to opt in or out of their data being used. There will also be a link added to your website that allows users to view a copy of your privacy policy and terms and conditions.

But why?

This is an effort to maintain compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (also known as GDPR) issued by the European Union and European Economic Area. After much research and discussion, it has been determined that US based companies will be required to comply with this regulation because of the Foreign Corrupt Practice Act (“FCPA”) which was signed into US law in 1977. The penalty for non-compliant companies will be higher of two possibilities: 4% of the annual worldwide revenue, or €20 million.

As a friend and ally to your business, we are happy to complete these necessary changes to your website to financially and legally protect you and ourselves.

If for some reason you do not want to protect your company from this policy change, please reach out to Pete Fardal at [email protected] and we will provide you with a waiver to sign releasing iPoint from liability.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.
